Educate your family that some people recover from active treatment in a few weeks and others may not recover for a year or more. It is not a sign of weakness, but is your body’s individual response to the treatment. Don’t let family and friends set the pace for your healing.

Once I was able to accept that my entire body had been weakened by the cancer treatments and that it would be a while before I mentally and physically felt like myself again, I stopped pushing myself so hard. Accepting limitations takes the pressure off.

Since my immune system was still weak, I asked people to visit me — instead of going out. It was less tiring and I managed to skip the cold and flu season

  5. Amanda says:

I kept in contact with people I met during treatment. We shared many of the same symptoms and I felt normal.
